last night we went to the roller derby.  yes, anchorage has a roller derby – Rage City Rollergirls.  one of our survey friends is a member of the team.  it was so much fun though it was not a close game/match/bout(?).  we played a team from fairbanks.

i am way behind on all of my projects.  i managed to finish this hat while in hawaii.  i actually like it better than the first hat (even before i felted the crap out of it).

ANDi got my second month of fiber in the mail!  if you are a member of Lapoli‘s club, and you haven’t received yours yet, and you want to be surprised when your package comes (which i’m sure it already has – i am in alaska so was probably last to receive) STOP HERE.

around christmas, when i was learning to spin and got my wheel, i bought myself 3 months of fiber (12 oz. total of HANDPAINTED fluffiness) for a screaming deal.

i still have yet to finish spinning January’s fiber (see post).  receiving this beautiful fiber will definitely encourage me to get the first month spun up.  i love this fiber and was recently looking on etsy for a nice bright blue…

February 3.

we did our last beach day.  i’m so sad that i will not see the beach for months.  months.  that’s such an awful thing to think about.  not even not seeing the beach, there isn’t a whole lot of sun either up here in ak!    time to start popping the vitamin d again!

we went to genki sushi tonight as our last supper.  it was sooo good.  sushi comes out on a conveyor belt and you just grab what you want.  you can also order specialty items from a menu.  it was really good and they had a variety of items.

our last day on the island

Before our flight we went out to La Perouse Bay.

our final goodbye.  the best hosts ever.  it will not be 11 years before we see you guys again!  thanks for everything!

as if our trip couldn’t get any better!  today we went and kayaked with the whales!  it was a wet day, but it was so much fun!  we put in at makena landing and paddled a few miles north – we only got distracted for a little bit as we chased whales.

they named their kayak “wrangell” since they wish they had her when they lived in wrangell.  the name is very appropriate as it rained for the remainder of the day!

we all napped for the rest of the day (i think i napped for like 3 hours!) and then we BBQ’d at the condo – in the rain!

we went to the beach in the morning, then spent the evening at the Old Lahaina Luau.

when we were planning our trip to hawaii i had margaret suggest a luau for us.  we aren’t really into tourist things, but this was definitely worth our money and time.  the food and drinks were amazing, our hosts were very friendly.  it was a really beautiful atmosphere and the dancing and entertainment was incredible.

we ended up being seated across the table from a couple from fairbanks, ak.  the other two couples at our table were from minnesota.  everyone escaping the winter.
