i started foto friday as an easy way to publish at least one blog post per week.

and there are always photos i want to share, but not necessarily write about.

i want them to be of different subjects and not entirely about crafts or fiber arts.

i know 99% of them will be rudder.

i apologize for that.

i can’t help it, he’s just so damn cute.

this is the view from the house i grew up in. in the boat is my dad, uncle roy and buku.

ethan is helping them out on the beach.

this is exactly why i can’t live away from the ocean.

imagine seeing this everyday of your young life and then one day it’s not there.

this is why i enjoy living on the boat so much.

and another reason to return “home”:

mabel lives in an assisted living home in wasilla, but came back to wrangell for the wedding.

soooo many memories with mabel. i am glad she was able to make some with rudder – including giving him his first bite of dixie cup and a beanie baby!

being at my parents house is just not the same when mabel is not next door.

and we are live.

not really, but rudder has his own channel on youtube!

you are probably thinking – why? he’s only 8 months old. what can he do that is so interesting?

nothing really.

but he is pretty funny and cute.

i made a channel for him since my mother gave us a video camera for christmas and it’s an easy way of sharing videos with multiple people – and our families are hugemongous.

before he was born i never realized there was going to be so much pressure from friends and family to share photos, videos, etc.

thank the higher powers for internet!

i will try to let you know when i have posted new videos.

oh, and i’ve been knitting.

rudder has almost grown out of his last hat i knit for him. see this post.

and we are in alaska, so he needs a new one.

it’s so close to being done, so i may post a pic tomorrow.

AND congratulations to my little little brother ethan for surviving and passing his air assault training!

he was is oregon for the past two weeks repelling from very high towers and even from a blackhawk helicopter at 90 ft.

he also had to endure a 12 mile ruck.

no easy feat!

but i’m glad he is back here in alaska because it gets really boring when its just me, rudder and my parents.

rudder is a good listener, but sometimes i need a little more feedback.

this is what happens when i leave my mom (who raised five kids) to babysit.

she builds a “fort” for him out of pillows so there is no way for him to fall off of the bed and then she half snoozes, half plays with him.

and for some reason, he has the best time.

road trip hats.

i find that i get engrossed in something for awhile and then can just drop it. i really do have a good excuse for not crocheting or knitting in some time.

well, excuses. knitting kills my right wrist and i need/want it for yoga right now. i have no yarn here. i haven’t done much knitting on the boat because it’s too hot and sticky to play with wool or even acrylic or cotton. i have an eight month old child and must choose my free time activities wisely – reading, eating, hanging out with the fam and showering have been top priorities.

my bff and another friend road tripped to homer, ak from maine last month.

bda (my bff – aka britta) was in kasilof last summer and worked at a fishing lodge. she thought she wanted to go to ak (homer) and give her a chance to redeem herself after last years summer of rain. i believe she is headed back to stx as i type.

she met a boy.

she was accompanied by the lovely ava (hails from maine) and two dogs – little tiny zoie and a rambunctious one year old dog from puerto rico – piko. ava (and piko) remains in homer and is working at the local sushi joint.

i crocheted both of them hippie hats and told them they will fit right when wearing their xtra tuffs at music festivals. .

i didn’t get pictures of either of them modelling them. and ava has since misplaced hers (i made hers out of the green sparkly yarn that makes up the flower of the hat above). boo.

but i did get the cutest little model to try bda’s on. it looks much better on a real sized head!

p.s. lion brand cotton ease yarn kinda sucks. i ran across at least 3 knots that were there to tie the yarn together. one segment was around 14 inches. annnoying!
