so i put rudder’s new cardigan on him and we took a walk.

the hotel we are at (where b’s office is) is right near Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge.

when we were here a few weeks ago, there were canadian geese and sandhill cranes covering the fields.

a few days ago, we saw two or three cranes.

yesterday there were no migratory birds to be seen.

he’s very close to walking. he does a really funny wide leg shuffle.

how ’bout them fall colors, eh?

and it was high 60s. and today maybe 50.

it’s supposed to be mixed snow and rain on sunday, so we are planning to drive back to anchorage on saturday morning.

there are many trails around these fields, but we decided to wander the boreal forest for a few photos. the trees look like they go on for miles and miles, but they don’t. this forest is haunting when walking through at dusk.

hey mom, have you seen these crunchy brown leaves and this grass?  it’s so amazing!

ok mom.  are we done with the photoshoot?  pretty tired here.

oh, but we are home and dad’s here. i’ll wake up now.

last night we went to the roller derby.  yes, anchorage has a roller derby – Rage City Rollergirls.  one of our survey friends is a member of the team.  it was so much fun though it was not a close game/match/bout(?).  we played a team from fairbanks.

this is the only photo i managed to get.  the girls move way too fast, and my action photography is not great!

i am way behind on all of my projects.  i managed to finish this hat while in hawaii.  i actually like it better than the first hat (even before i felted the crap out of it).

ANDi got my second month of fiber in the mail!  if you are a member of Lapoli‘s club, and you haven’t received yours yet, and you want to be surprised when your package comes (which i’m sure it already has – i am in alaska so was probably last to receive) STOP HERE.

around christmas, when i was learning to spin and got my wheel, i bought myself 3 months of fiber (12 oz. total of HANDPAINTED fluffiness) for a screaming deal.

i still have yet to finish spinning January’s fiber (see post).  receiving this beautiful fiber will definitely encourage me to get the first month spun up.  i love this fiber and was recently looking on etsy for a nice bright blue…

though we did get smacked by a truck today (not our fault, or really his)- we got around 4″ of fresh stuff this morning (snow on top of ice – not good for driving) and it’s still blowing around…  and i don’t think i will be driving for the rest of the evening.  especially since the tire makes a horrible scraping noise with the bottom of the car every time you hit a slight bump…  oh the joys of anchorage and it’s never ending winter.

i have been a little under the weather with a cold.  though i feel much better now and have more energy.

i have not unpacked from last weekends cabin trip.

i have not completely finished the posts for the hawaii trip.

i have been working on this (started it on last weekends girls cabin trip.  dang cute!):

i have finished this skein of yarn (one ply is from the fiber in the previous post, the other is wool i got when i first started spinning).  i over twisted it so it would look more stripy and not as loose as my previous 2-ply yarns (sorry, my camera takes horrible photos, especially in low light):

i have felted these flats (just have to sew on strap and find a pretty button – any suggestions on color or type?):

i have not done much spinning, and this bobbin is waiting to be plied with a mate (it will be identical to the second photo):
