a very redneck weekend.

i’m too tired to do this, but i made a list today and am sticking to it.

in the last week, i have been spinning my a$$ off. my high speed whorl has made my finer spinning go so fast!

but to start, a new bumper (see this post):

they even cleaned my car inside and out, though it was nasty and wet out (i’m hoping this is break-up!) when i picked it up so ran through a ton of puddles on my way home.

and here is the AWESOME fiber i bought from the Fiber Festival a few weekends ago. i’m glad i went, though the crowd was disappointing, it was nice to meet people, buy locally, and actually touch my purchases before buying (as opposed to buying on etsy).

and some fine merino from Touch of Alaska. This is from a homegrown (ak) sheep (there is lots of organic bits to pick out while spinning this yarn, which i love!! i feel like i’m on a farm or something). i LOVE this green and am spinning up some fine singles to try out some navajo plying.

i also bought a little wallet thing (technically a billfold) for buku (it was his 32nd birthday the 13th. it’s not very manly, but he likes a certain style and this lady made them). i will have to steal it when he isn’t looking a take a picture!

and i have been spinning this – Lapoli’s February fiber ‘twilight moves’. i decided to keep it as a single because i love the colors so much. i split it up into 2 ~2 oz. chunks and spun up two worsted weight skeins:

i have some other stuff spun up, but don’t have any photos taken yet. will have to wait until next time.

this weekend we escaped on friday night and stayed in girdwood. they have a ton of snow and it was falling all night friday and then in the morning. there were 9 of us in the cabin. everyone else went to a bluegrass concert at the sitzmark so buku and i took advantage of the quiet time and stayed in with the dogs.

last night we went to the roller derby. yes, anchorage has a roller derby – Rage City Rollergirls. one of our survey friends is a member of the team. it was so much fun though it was not a close game/match/bout(?). we played a team from fairbanks.

this is the only photo i managed to get. the girls move way too fast, and my action photography is not great!

i am way behind on all of my projects. i managed to finish this hat while in hawaii. i actually like it better than the first hat (even before i felted the crap out of it).

ANDi got my second month of fiber in the mail! if you are a member of Lapoli‘s club, and you haven’t received yours yet, and you want to be surprised when your package comes (which i’m sure it already has – i am in alaska so was probably last to receive) STOP HERE.

around christmas, when i was learning to spin and got my wheel, i bought myself 3 months of fiber (12 oz. total of HANDPAINTED fluffiness) for a screaming deal.

i still have yet to finish spinning January’s fiber (see post). receiving this beautiful fiber will definitely encourage me to get the first month spun up. i love this fiber and was recently looking on etsy for a nice bright blue…

catch up.

i am slowly catching up on posts from our hawaii vacation. i have posts for the 14th, 15th, and 16th. mostly pictures. it’s been hard getting back into the swing of things. i’ve just been really tired lately. it does get lighter earlier and stay light later, so that’s been really nice. the day we got back we got a bunch of snow. my mom was in town for a night so it was nice to hang out with her.

since getting back, i have received some fiber. i will post some pictures later. i have been spinning this:

it is the “fiber of the month” for january from lapoli. i have anxiously awaited this fiber (i knew it was sitting at the post office the entire time i was in hawaii). this is the first “club” i have joined. i bought a three month subscription (40z./month) before christmas. i like to be surprised by the colors – and it’s handpainted! they were so perfect and bright upon returning to gray, dreary anchorage.

i really like this fiber. it’s super stretchy and bouncy. i think i want to ply it with something else to tone down the green. i’m not really sure. maybe a light grey (which i don’t have). any suggestions?? i’m spinning a super light single right now so i really want to ply it with something. i will post pictures of what i have spun up later this evening.
