road trip hats.

i find that i get engrossed in something for awhile and then can just drop it. i really do have a good excuse for not crocheting or knitting in some time.

well, excuses. knitting kills my right wrist and i need/want it for yoga right now. i have no yarn here. i haven’t done much knitting on the boat because it’s too hot and sticky to play with wool or even acrylic or cotton. i have an eight month old child and must choose my free time activities wisely – reading, eating, hanging out with the fam and showering have been top priorities.

my bff and another friend road tripped to homer, ak from maine last month.

bda (my bff – aka britta) was in kasilof last summer and worked at a fishing lodge. she thought she wanted to go to ak (homer) and give her a chance to redeem herself after last years summer of rain. i believe she is headed back to stx as i type.

she met a boy.

she was accompanied by the lovely ava (hails from maine) and two dogs – little tiny zoie and a rambunctious one year old dog from puerto rico – piko. ava (and piko) remains in homer and is working at the local sushi joint.

i crocheted both of them hippie hats and told them they will fit right when wearing their xtra tuffs at music festivals. .

i didn’t get pictures of either of them modelling them. and ava has since misplaced hers (i made hers out of the green sparkly yarn that makes up the flower of the hat above). boo.

but i did get the cutest little model to try bda’s on. it looks much better on a real sized head!

’til then.

p.s. lion brand cotton ease yarn kinda sucks. i ran across at least 3 knots that were there to tie the yarn together. one segment was around 14 inches. annnoying!

ugh.

so i was talking to my mom today on the phone while i put in the hat from yesterdays post to felt.  and i overfelted it.  not by much, but it’s definitely not what i wanted it to do.  and it’s ribbed on the bottom, which gives it the fisherman effect.  not happy.  it still looks cool, but i liked how it looked yesterday.  wah.

so i started another one, but it’s going to have more gold because i’m running out of my green.  and its smaller.

i also felted these last night:

see this post to see how huge they were before.

and the koolaid scarf:

i’m holding the yarn double so it will be thicker.

and a picture of nootka a.k.a. tootka (she has the worst gas) a.k.a. nooty pants and her friend.  i took this of her over new years weekend (the only picture i managed to take since we discovered the sd card was left in the  computer) and think it’s hilarious.

’til then…

saturday.

i finally finished the scarf at friday night knitting.

and started this:

and finished it:

look familiar?  the green is my self-striping experiment yarn!  see this post.

it was awesome to knit up- the handspun was so light and slippery.  i didn’t want the gold to overpower the green so i only purled one row of it.  it needs to be felted down a little since it doesn’t fit even me.  i have a small head, but i think celia’s is probably even smaller – she’s teeny.

i hung out with stephanie last night and today.   we went to far north yarn co. to further deplete my christmas credit and give sydney a little taste of the yarn store.

i have a few things cookin’.  excited about starting a hat for buku – i never make him anything and always feel bad!  i picked out some manly colors and will do a hat like the one above.    the blue is for though.

one of my first posts was of this cardigan for sydney:

she was a big baby at birth and grew out of it so fast!  she is 3 and a half months old.

on the bobbins:

nothing!

i took all of my yarn off today, except the unfinished one.  i got 220 yards from the baby alpaca/bombyx.  it’s gorgeous.  i also unwound 165 yards of worsted superwash mixed with exotic sparkly angora.  i have one more bobbin full that i will unwind tomorrow.  i will post pictures when they are both dry.

i’m going to crochet this into a scarf today.  it is the yarn that i dyed with koolaid a while back.  it is so pretty and sparkly.  i’m making it for my cousins daughter who is super cute and hopefully girly.  this is really girly yarn!

’til then…

Get your Xmas orders in Now!!

i wasn’t intending to do any kind of selling of goods on my blog, but after thinking about it – why wouldn’t i?  i am saving up for a new boat,  and boats are expensive – so, now is your chance to request your handmade Xmas gift for the coffee lover in your life – and it’s reusable so you are being green!  i know, xmas is in months, but it’s not like i don’t have a full time+ job so i’m a bit limited on knitting/crochet time and thought i’d get an early start.

in short, i make really cute coffee cup jackets (usually crocheted in cotton, acrylic, or wool) that i named after my indian love, “shweta” that can be personalized.   i currently sell them at a coffee shop at 2101 Abbott Loop Rd. (in the strip mall north of Freddies) in anchorage – Coffee Cats – one of my bffs owns the shop and they do fairly well.

so, anchoragites, you can sample the goods there or simply  buy one, or you can get a personalized one by requesting them from me.  At the coffee shop they are priced at $10 each.  i will have some christmas themed ones there in the next month.

if you want to order through me they are $12 each – and $1 extra for a name to be put on it.  i will throw in shipping – if they need to be shipped (flat rate, US Postal Service, priority – super fast!).  OR get 5 for $50 – fully personalizable.

i will try to get some pictures up of the ones i have done in the past (if you have gotten one from me, please email me a photo!).  they are REALLY cute.  they also come with a little tag with washing instructions.  and if you don’t like it – i will totally refund it or send you a new one.

IF you are interested, please email me (nowhereslow.ak@gmail.com or my normal email), or comment on my blog (i won’t post your orders in my comments) and then i can figure out a payment option – paypal, a check, or whatever (anyone have any good ideas?).

***please include the following information:

1.  preferred color/colors (some of my yarns are variegated, so it will be a blend of your preferred color).

2. does the person like bright colors or more earthy tones?

3.  For personalizing ($1 extra): a name, nickname, logo, or an interest (there are many clip art options if you want a picture instead of a name) that you want sewn onto the coffee jacket.  or you can send me a jpeg of something and i can work with it.

Or if you want it to have a xmas, birthday, etc…. theme, let me know.  if i know the person, you can also leave it totally up to me, since i’m pretty trustworthy and don’t do anything distasteful, unless you want me to!!

these are really great stocking stuffers and would go great with a bag of coffee, coffee gift certificate, etc.

and i have another fun project brewing so i will thrown in a little sample of that for the first 5 orders.

ALSO, if you like any of the projects that i have on my blog or ravelry site, and you want something handknit/crocheted, you are totally welcome to request something – as long as it’s not something that will take me forever since i lose interest in big projects (i’m talking scarves, mittens, cowls, hats, etc).  i’m always open to ideas and personalization.

and that’s the end of my marketing.  ugh.  i need a boat.
